Description
Anaheim is on the rise but could use a top 4 defenseman. Jones is a legit top pairing guy who would fit in well. Basically at the cost of cap space and a prospect (while also throwing a cap dump in) isn't bad value. A bad return for what they paid but that's Hawks fault. Can't get hung up on that now that they've traded Cat, Hagel, and Dach.

I get the sentiment, but even considering all of that, this is still an unacceptable return. I would much rather keep him around if for no other reason than to help CHI reach the cap floor, than accept that trade.

I think with retention the return would be a little better. I'm indifferent when it comes to moving Jones, I don't think it'll make a difference either way.

Could alternatively use the cap space to gain assets by taking on bad contracts. That could make up for some of the shortage in the trade.

I'm indifferent on moving him too. I have zero attachment to Jones being in a CHI sweater. But that is just not an acceptable return. We aren't VGK who has to give away players for nothing or next to nothing to get cap compliant.

Tempting from the ANA perspective because the return is relatively minimal. That contract is just so heavy. Anaheim could have a pretty tasty D in a couple years with him though:

Fowler - Jones
Mintyukov - Drysdale
Zellweger - Helleson/Warren
+Lacombe, Luneau, Vaakanainen, Hinds, Thrun, Moore, etc
