Their obsession with committing big money to older UFA's who's windows don't align with the teams window. They can't UFA spend their way to a Cup contender and they don't have the pieces in place to do so before all these players are past their primes. I can understand having NHL vets around to support the high end young drafted talent coming in but SEA has went overboard.

So all of these moves are trying to take the older win now pieces and translate them into younger assets that better align with the team that they should be building around the draft while better accomplishing the goals above.

There is likely a lot of refinement to be done here but for a first rough glance thats the idea.
