Even if we make the playoffs I doubt we are serious buyers. Also if we are in the playoffs it means exceptional play from players like Zadina, Bertuzzi, Lindstrom and Kubalik and you just pushed them down the line up big time. Trades aren't really good for Detroit right now.

Detroit says no thanks. We have our own extensions to plan for, not taking on an expensive winger that turns 30 this season.

maybe, but their lineup is bloated right now and they got a lot of prospects that aren't going to get much play time. I think this is going to be a big year in deciding who will be the core group going forward. Probably by the TDL, we will have a good idea if guys like Suter, Kubalik, Zadina, Veleno, and Fabbri will be key contributers under Lalonde's new system. If not, Huberdeau is a certified star who has been over a ppg in each of the last 4 seasons. Probably better to have at least 1 guy like that rather than 2-3 guys putting up 20-40 pts.

As for Bert, his fate is gonna depend on whether he has an extension in place by the TDL. Otherwise, he might be one of the pieces going back in a trade like this.
