I think the Cogs Helm LOC becomes Bednar’s kind of default checking line especially until the 2nd line C role gets worked out leaning on those guys to eat minutes.

I think they sign one more NHL forward prior to the start of camp and predict that none of Kaut, Maltsev or Bowers (whom they may not even sign), Ranta or Maltsev get more than injury call-up duty. IMO, if they aren't going to really let Kaut stick, they should let him play the first 20 games to build some value then trade him; he's no longer waivers exempt so might as well try to get something for him.

I'd like to see a little more insurance but I'd also like to see what those guys can do when given the opportunity

Bowers probably doesn’t sign, 1st rd pick that's not had an opportunity to play.

I don't think they'll be given a real opportunity - the org is just weird that way; they haven't graduated a non top-10 pick of their own that has come through the AHL in forever. Most of those guys have over 100 AHL games but since they haven't "popped," they just don't get a shot even though they'd be cheap bottom six options no worse than a lot of what they are paying more for right now.
