Description
I feel like I haven't had a large group of people mad at me in a long time, so let's do an ACGM. Hooray!

TRADES

-Vegas needs a starting goalie to contend; there's no way for them to rebuild now. Upgrading Brossoit to Varlamov is going to cost an asset; the Isles also have room to retain and the Knights have no room to keep Nic Hague, so he's the asset. Vegas gets Varly for 1x$3M, Isles get Brossoit and Hague.

-Let's play musical chairs. St. Louis probably would like to upgrade Robert Bortuzzo at RD3, no? They get hometown boy Scotty Mayfield at a bargain basement price, and give up a solid forward prospect in Alexandrov and next year's 2nd. Alexandrov gives the Isles another solid kid who should be ready to force his way into the lineup in the next year or two as the older contracts start aging off the cap.

-Toronto fans have been trying to give away Holl all summer long, so they get him for a Song and a late pick swap. The Leafs clear much-needed cap space to keep Sandin on board, and the Isles slightly downgrade their RD3 situation to gain some future assets. Everybody wins!!

Look, if Lou's not gonna spend the cap space might as well try and use it, right? Take advantage of some teams that need space and players by retaining smartly and getting assets back for your troubles. You've basically downgraded your backup goalie and RD3 in this situation and you've gained: Nic Hague, Nikita Alexandrov, a 2024 2nd, and moved up from the 5th to the 4th in 2024. And all it cost was eating some cap.

Nope. They aren't spending young player capital for a mild upgrade on 13-14 minutes per night, especially when that upgrade is due a healthy raise next summer.

I picked St. Louis because of the hometown connection, but I think the value is fair. Colorado paid a similar price for 17 minutes of Josh Manson each night, and his cap hit was almost triple what Mayfield at full retention would cost ($2.05M vs. $725K). If it's not the Blues, I think it's someone else offering a very similar package.

The Blues have no spare cap for this swap anyway. They are quite happy with Bortuzzo in that role.

I’ve never heard of this Song guy but from what I can see the leafs are getting negative value for Holl. Just because leafs fans trade him a lot on this site doesn’t mean he is a bad player. He’s either a low end second pairing guy or a high end third pairing guy and at just 2 million that’s still a valuable player

Chiarot/savard is what mayfield should get. That said STL doesnt make sense as a destination.
If we are retaining on varly the return should certainly be higher.
