Description
New Jersey will finish 4th in the Metro. Total hot take here, but I do have the Devils being a playoff team. However, in order to do that, they need a healthy Blackwood and no major injuries to any of their forwards. I think that was the thing that hurt them last year. I love the additions that the Devils made this offseason. Vanecek is a way better option than Bernier (it actually makes Bernier expendable), gives the Devils more stability in goal. Haula over Zacha is pretty much the same, however Palat gives the Devils some playoff experience. Holtz could also give them extra forward depth and more goals scored. He has unbelieveable goal-scoring ability. On defense, the Devils could get Nemec in the top 4 (though I highly doubt it, Severson and Graves are signed for just this season, Severson might leave), and Marino is a solid top 4 option as well that will stay in the team’s top 4. The Devils have all the tools to be a playoff team, but their roster just needs to stay healthy if they want the playoffs.

For young players, I actually liked the Nemec pick. He's a guy that the Devils need, a high-quality right shot defender. However, at best with the depth that the Devils have on defense now, he will just get nine games in. If he does however do well, Smith would be the 7th d-man. Zetterlund put up a half PPG pace in just a small sample size, it will be interesting to see how he does in a full stretch. Like said before, a full season of Holtz will allow the Devils to produce more goals. Holtz is the best sniper in the 2020 draft.

Nice. Thanks for doing a Devils ACGM.

Bernier is likely done for season. Last I heard, he needed multiple hip surgeries, each requiring 6-month recovery time, and he has only had one.

Bastian is exclusively a RW. Not sure why he has “C” tag on here.

Severson is not as great on left side. We have tried that in the past and he never looked comfortable. Defense probably lines up like this to start:

Siegenthaler - Severson
Graves - Hamilton
Okhotiuk or Walsh - Marino

With Smith (the new one) as 7th dman and rotating into 3LD bunch. If Bahl has good camp, he could get into mix too. But he is better off back getting top-4 minutes in AHL to work on his puck skills.
Devil liked this.

Im hoping we can trade/offerhseet for another dman and unload salary with it
Trade Johnsson (half retained) or Johnsson + pick for Sandin
Gives more room for young guys upfront

I am in love with the Devils roster. Young, and deeper than the Marianas Trench.

4th I think is very conservative. They have 3 excellent forward lines that they could actually roll. The blueline is fantastic. Goaltending remains a question mark.

The Metro is a division the Canes should win. I am not totally sold on Washington right now (Backstrom is a huge blow), and father time will be catching up to the Pens. The Rangers are all about Sheshterkin, which I would be too, but still lack a legit top 6 forward imo (Kappo isn't it).

If this team continues to grow together, my hot take is they could finish 2nd. The pieces are there when Zetterlund projects to be a scratch!

Fitzy seems like too conservative a GM to be offersheeting anyone. Especially considering we have a young team and we have our own RFAs to protect.

I don’t think Mango would get us any dmen better than What we got coming. Maybe with some other goodies and cap moves. Jake Gardiner maybe.

Excited to see what they do this year.

I think 4th is actually a good and solid place. Not a hot take.

Bernier is probably done this season. My best bet is that they should trade him and a pick or two for some cap. That would give them some cap to sign someone like Milano.

Their two forward lines are excellent. A great 1-2 punch of Hischer and Hughes. Another 1-2 punch of Sharangovich and Palat. Finally another 1-2 punch of Mercer and Bratt.

I hope Wood has a bounce back year. I expect Boqvist or McLeod to be in for Bastion since he can’t play C.

Having Severson on LD 2 is very risky. Devils have put him their before and didn’t look comfortable. Defense probably looks like this:

Siegenthaler - Hamilton
Graves - Severson
Walsh or Smith - Marino

I could see Okhotiuk to be in the convo as well.

It will really depend about injuries. If guys like Blackwood, Hamilton, Wood stay Healthy I think that they are a legit contender.

I think it would be nice to see the Devils in the playoffs for the first time since 2018.
