Description
After watching tonight's preseason game, Colton Dach looks like he could be a great player after learning how to play more defense. He'll eventually be better than Kirby. Mark me.

Kirby has looked pretty good for the Habs thus far too. Pre-wrist injury vibes

Aside from the occasional flashes from Kirby, Colton definitely looks better already. He seems more consistent shift to shift.

This is it right here. The issue Kirby had was A.) Consistency and B.) Hockey IQ. He'd just get lost too many times. I hope the Habs can teach him though. Seemed like a good kid.

I feel like Kirby also refused to be humbled. Subconsciously he refused to accept that he isn't an elite superstar in the NHL. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing. But at a certain point you need to just simplify and solidify your game and hope the rest comes with time. Everyones expectations for him just became so engrained in who he thinks he is. He made superficial attempts at silencing the noise, but I don't think he ever actually got the message. He is still super young though. Hopefully he can figure it out and put it all together in MTL.

I always noticed Kirby put himself in bad situations, exposed himself, and would just get rocked at least once per game. That alone told me he wasnt an NHL player yet. He didn’t have good situational awareness and put himself in compromising situations.

Also if you’re right and he does flourish with MTL then I can’t wait in a few years to add him to the inevitable “former Hawks team” ACGMs lol.
