MTL wouldn't sign Meier for more than Suzuki.

SJ would want more than that, probably FLO 2023 1st and one of Mesar/Beck/Barron.

Not a bad idea, sharks seriously consider if Meier doesn’t intend on resigning long term. add him to say Carlsson Yager or Dvorsky or Ritchie! and slaf suzuki and Caulfield and this team has a potent up and comming top 6.

Meier is a higher profile player than Suzuki IMO. if he hit the FA market 20+ teams would offer him more than Suzuki!

Not sure he'd get more. Using Fiala as a comparable, i think they're very similar players, both RFA, both 26, and he just signed 7.875M X 7 years.

I dont see the point in this for montreal.

Meier will be 27 at the start of next season so he isnt materially younger than several UFA options. At 8.8 million you can likely get one of the higher end UFAs and not throw away a bunch of assets.
