Why would San Jose take a rental for too young team controlled power forward?

I'm confused on what the goal is.

If the value in the trades don't matter and it's just about making the team better. Why not take Holtz+Mercer for example?
If the value does matter, then what in the world is going on with the other 3 trades?...

No where do I state that the value of the trade doesn't matter, it does. That's a good return to Meier imo, Severson is a top 4 D, Holtz a great prospect, and Zetterlund is solid too just needs the opportunity. Hence I tried to make San Jose better both now and in the future in that trade by addressing some needs. The other 3 moves are swaps, not trades. Simply moves based on two players with exactly the same cap hits. Not sure how that's unclear, you just try to get better players than are currently on the team without affecting the cap situation at all
