Description
Some notes from this game.
- PP and overall high danger offense looked non-existent without Huberdeau
- Structure and work ethic looked fine, nobody looked particularly disinterested, still lacking synergy though
- Ruzicka looked solid playing on the wing tonight, I hope to see more of that
- Weegar looked really good overall
- Zadorov had some blunders but also made some really good plays too
- Dube, Toffoli, and Mange seem super snake bitten. Loads of fumbled pucks and missed shots that would and should normally go in

For a while I thought what this team needed was a goal scorer for the first line but after watching them without Huberdeau (couldn't watch the last 2) it seems pretty clear to me that playmaking is a huge issue without him. I think we really need to call up one of Pelletier or Zary here. A lot of fans are calling for Phillips to be given a shot but he's just not someone who generates chances the same way the 2 aforementioned do. I think Kane should be target #1 at the deadline assuming this team gets back in the race now but that doesn't mean players like Tarasenko shouldn't be considered. Winnipeg is winning games but statistically they've been super mid this season and probably fall off a bit. Makes me wonder if Wheeler could or should be a target if retained (hypothetically ofc).

But overall without Huberdeau it seems the team really lacks the ability to generate high danger chances right now through playmaking.

I feel like Dube and Mang have been dishing to Kadri too often all season and are just getting some rotten luck, Dube had a good look off a broken stick last game and couldn't quite tip one in off the backhand.

I thought it was another well played game, tough loss but definitely gave one of the best teams in the league a tough win with a lot of the guys out of the line.

Definitely need to start converting a bit more, too many shots not enough goals.

Maybe call up Phillips (Decent Passer and Excellent Finisher) and one of Zary (makes me nervous being -8 and having 19PIM) or Pelletier.

Could use more speed to open up the ice and passing lanes too. Another Playmaker for the 2nd line would be nice (sure would like Kerfoot 50-75% retained, Patrick Kane, Ivan Barbashev or Tarasenko), but till we acquire another Better Passing Playmaker, we might as well go with speed at C & RW with Toffoli trailing for the back pass/one time opportunity. Dube's faster, but I think Ruzicka's got the Better Hands and Vision. I'd sit Lucic in favour of the Faster Accelerating Ritchie; guys (including D-Men) are just dangling around Looch and making him look really bad and he's just not doing much in the O-Zone.

Huberdeau-Kadri-Phillips
Toffoli-Lindholm-(Dube/Ruzicka)
Mangiapane-Backlund-Coleman
(Pelletier/Zary)-Lewis-Ritchie

Problem is until we get guys back healthy and Gilbert & DeSimone are sent back down, there's not enough room on the roster to bring more guys up atm. Can't waive Lucic and sending Rooney, Ritchie, Ruzicka and/or Mackey down to make space could lead to one of more of them being claimed. Would have to send Gilbert or DeSimone down to bring one of Phillips, Pelletier or Zary up

Really miss having Stone and his Big Blast in the line-up as well. That's been one the best high danger scoring opportunities for us imo. Whether Stone scores, takes a player or their stick out by blocking his shot or creating juicy rebounds, his shot is very effective.
