Description
B's need a center of the future and Horvat is the best pending UFA option. The draw to play in Boston has never been greater than it is right now and if he's smart Horvat can also see the long-term upside in playing with Pastrnak, Hall, DeBrusk, Lysell, etc. If the Bruins leak interest in Horvat, they might just get him to push for a trade and can get him this season without giving up an arm and a leg - though the return is certainly hefty. Do the Bruins need a center right now? Not really, but how good would they be adding Horvat, especially when Coyle can either shift to the wing or center the "fourth" line. Horvat is certainly worth more than Smith and Reilly right now, that's for sure.

Bruins are not giving up that much for Horvat to be a third liner.

You stated the hefty price but it's only a late first and a second. Not much of interest to Vancouver.

The only flaw in your plan is the canucks easily decline.

3 AHL players plus a very late first plus a 2nd two years from now? Pass

Considering in this scenario he resigns and would be the centre of the future. Also the price of a first and second isn't really that much. The first is going to likely be a late one and the second is 2024. It's a pretty easy pass by Vancouver, it doesn't really address any needs they would have.

Bruins need a center long term - yes. True statement

The solution to that is not trading for a pending UFA.
