I do not think this will happen, and everyone is reading way too much into Friedman basically doing his own ACGM. However, here is the Caps' perspective on a Mantha Boeser deal.
Mantha over the last 3 years:
122 GP, 67 points, 59 EV points, on-ice xG% of 52, 57, and 53, Lars Eller most common linemate
2 years left at 5.7M
Boeser over the last 3 years:
148 GP, 111 points, 68 EV points, on-ice xG% of 55, 58, and 46, JT Miller most common linemate
3 years left at 6.65M
Neither player holds much value right now as complimentary wingers making more than 4m per. I repeat, NEITHER PLAYER HOLDS MUCH VALUE RIGHT NOW, and both have been disappointing so far this year.
That being said, Mantha has performed around equally with Boeser at everything except producing on the powerplay, while also spending most of his time with significantly worse players. He also has 1 year and 1M less on his contract, which matters a lot to a team that has say a 9.2M center on LTIR that needs to come off at some point this year. Boeser's biggest advantage over Mantha for the Caps is that he is younger and shoots right. That being said, he is the only one of the two that was a warmup injury away from being a healthy scratch this year.
Caps would need to have something else coming back to make this swap worth it, and something pretty significant too. Using the Vrana trade as an example, where they gave up a 1st and a 2nd to get "their guy" as well as shave ~ 2.5M off the cap by dumping Panik, Vancouver would have to add at least a 2nd.
a 2nd is quire a lot to retain, we could take back a bit of bad salary but we are not interested in paying to get rid of boeser. How about eller and mantha for boeser given that you have eller on the taxi squad

I think either eller or sheary could be moved quite easily for a mid round pick, which would keep them cap compliant. Didn't add an eller trade here since I just wanted to focus on the main deal. Also given how the caps season has been going there's zero chance no one is injured lol

Oh yea, I did a post a while back looking at all the canucks, you can tell who is injured and who isnt just by watching a handful of games, if you know what to look for and you know their baseline it isnt that hard to see. I just hope that they give Ovie the best shot that they can to get him to the record. I feel like it will be close but I think he can do it.
Boeser would not be close to being a scratch on most other teams. The winger logjam in Vancouver is crazy; Podkolzin got sent down and we still have too many. Kuzmenko and Garland both sat for a game. I wouldn't read too much into it being strictly performance related.
