Would a 1st in this upcoming stacked draft class and 2 B level prospects get the trade done? Plus a roster player back for cap reasons who can be flipped for another asset (I used Kerfoot here)

If that sort of offer is enough it will be just barely enough... but then you have the issue of who else can beat it? At this time, there's several teams that would be able to top that quite easily. Honestly, I highly doubt Toronto is capable of landing O'Reilly. Lots of small prospects who also aren't terribly strong skaters. That is a speed-size mix not generally enjoyed by the Blues, especially in their Cs and Ds.

A first and a good prospect at minimum, which is more or less where all top end TDL assets start. I think the whole "they decide to move him" thing comes with crossing that threshold, otherwise I could see them re-signing him (even if I don't think that's the right decision). I kind of doubt it will have to be this year's first but obviously they'll be gunning for that. And the Blues have a lot of pseudo-top six forward prospects so if I were them I would be targeting someone like Niemela over someone like Robertson.

But if there's several teams interested, it goes up from there. It will be interesting to see how the Horvat thing shakes out and how the markets affect each other.

I can’t imagine it’s too much more than a 1st and 2 B prospects (I would consider a B prospect to be worth around a mid to late 2nd, so it’s basically a 1st and 2 2nds is what I’m saying). Most rentals don’t go for much more.

Horvat’s return will definitely impact ROR’s. I imagine Horvat gets a bigger return based off this years play (although I consider ROR the better player overall). And I agree, I think St Louis would definitely prefer a defenceman over a forward in terms of prospects. If Toronto moves a 1st in the deal I doubt they move Niemela on top of it, which sucks for Toronto if St Louis wants a d man on top of the first as their defensive prospect system isn’t very deep after him due to their top d prospects having graduated in the past couple years. The best Toronto has after Niemela is Villeneauve/Kokkonen/Kral, none of which I consider B level prospects

Most rentals aren't absolute playoff beasts who play 200 ft. games and finish high in the Selke voting every year.
