Description
If carlson is going to be out long term, some guys I think they could target. would still have to make cap work with potentially him and backstrom coming back.

If everyone is healthy -- send Malenstyn, Johansen, NAK, Alexeyev, Snively down and cap will work
Trades
1.
WSH
  1. Klingberg, John ($3,500,000 retained)
ANA
  1. Alexeyev, Alexander
  2. Eller, Lars
  3. 2023 2nd round pick (WSH)
Additional Details:
Most obvious choice. Only one year left, offensive RD. Has had a terrible season so the price lowers a bit. Eller balances salary and is a good NHL player, Alexeyev is former first round pick who can be a fine 5/6d, 2nd in a deep draft.
2.
ARI
  1. 2024 1st round pick (WSH)
Additional Details:
Eller goes as well to balance salary. Having a good year and fits the offensive profile, but a left shot that would force one of gustafsson or fehervary to their off side. think that 23 firsts are going to come at a huge premium and ghost isn't quite that level of player, but a 24 1st is nothing to scoff at.
3.
WSH
  1. Karlsson, Erik ($5,500,000 retained)
SJS
  1. Mantha, Anthony
  2. McMichael, Connor
Additional Details:
The big prize. Mantha has to go the other way to make the money work unless they get clarity on either Backstrom or Carlson. Honestly have no idea what the market for Karlsson would be. Yes they are retaining quite a lot of money in this scenario but they get out of it 3 years quicker with Mantha coming back. Mantha is also not a nothing piece, a very nice 2rw who could be moved again for more pieces. Because of that I went with just McMichael as the sweetener -- high pick who has lit up the AHL despite not completely convincing at the NHL level but who is still more than young enough to figure it out.

The cost being cheaper is going from the 23 1st to the 24, and while he's not been good in our system, there's a huge sample size as to what he can do, and since he likely gets moved in Jan, that's a lot of extra time retained.

That this point we probably have better prospects on LD than Alexeyev so he doesn’t move the needle, Eller doesn’t move it either as he is a 33 year old cap dump to us essentially & we just hold on for a 23 1st

he hasn't really driven play since the stars' run to the final and isn't putting up points this year either. i don't see any team that would give up a 1st even in 24 for him
