Description
I really don’t see any value in trading away Karlsson or Meier, either at the deadline or off-season. It makes zero sense. Meier is 26 and hasn’t even hit his prime yet. He’s on pace for 45 G’s / 80+ Points And Karlsson appears to be 100% healthy again and back to his old self and if he was traded the Sharks would have to retain around 20% of his contract minimum to gain any sort of decent return. Even then, I don’t see them getting 3 First Rounders and a prospect for an almost 33 yr old D man. Instead they should be buying out Vlasics horrific contact and saving 10%. He legitimately has zero value left and his 7M AAV just makes it that much worse.

This 22/23 season is a wash, Sharks will likely finish bottom 5 and hopefully have a top 5 draft pick and as of right now #5 prospect is Brayden Yager of the WHL.

They can easily just look forward to the 23/24 season with some young talent potentially cracking the lineup- Eklund, Bordeleau, Coe, Makiniemi, etc.

I would also like to see Hertl move to the wing again where he has freedom to be a playmaker/dangler and put up some points, he has so much skill and being a C hinders his ability to be creative offensively, I’ve been to several games in person and seen him on the Wing and it’s a night and day difference. The Sharks can either develop or draft another Top #1 C (maybe Yager). For now Couture can live out his days in that spot.

If the Sharks didn’t have high end prospects in the AHL almost NHL ready then I would say tear it down and trade away everyone but that is not the case.. they’ve got some really great talent in the pipeline they just need to stay course and in 3-4 years they’ll be back to a cup contender.

Either way I think this roster is much more youthful and exciting. Maybe they could pull a Kraken and be a surprise for next season.

If I were Ottawa I would take a flier on Kahkonen for free. He is having an off year and due to rebound, if not it’s off to Belleville.
This could be the start of a deal with more pieces moving……maybe something involving Zaitsev?

kahkonen's cap hit is 2.75 next year, no shot Ottawa can afford to take on that cap hit for a backup goalie that might just be terrible anyways

He had 4 solid years prior to this year , Forsberg was not exactly lighting it up before being moved to Ottawa. Roll the dice and at worst you get dinged 1.6 for him in Belleville for one year.

Zero reason for OTT to add a struggling Kahkonen at $2.75M when they could up Talbot for another year for that price, OR LESS.
Also, if we're gambling, there are 21 active roster goalies that will be UFA this summer, almost all of them have better stats and would cost less.
      Declined.

Sens are gonna be squeezed really tight against the cap trying to fit DeBrincat in. They're going to need to go budget on their goalie, not expensive. Just doesn't make sense for the Sens. If the Sharks wanted to retain 50% and the Sens throw in a late pick for their troubles, then that's the starter
