Description
I know that there's number of Bruins fans that are hoping the Bruins get involved in the arms race currently happening in the eastern conference. However, I just don't see the Bruins getting involved in any major way. There's just no cap, and if anyone truly believes that a team will take on Craig Smith or Mike Reilly's cap, even with a sweetener, I think you're nuts. Teams don't help other teams, especially when they're as talented as Boston. So, key depth guys who are defensively responsible and physical is what the Bruins should target.

Waive Craig Smith. If he clears, he's a key call-up (similar to Anton Stralman) come playoff time when roster size and cap become irrelevant. If he's claimed, oh well. Koppanen, Lauko, McLaughlin, and Wagner all have NHL games this year and have been at least decent. Beecher, Lysell, and Merkulov are all young and talented, but unproven, options, too.

Taxi Squad is who I'm bringing with the team in the postseason
Trades
1.
BOS
  1. Braun, Justin ($500,000 retained)
Additional Details:
No points for Braun this year, but you know what you're going to get. A good sized, solid defensive defender who's got some snarl. Plenty of experience as well, which is always good to add.
PHI
  1. 2023 4th round pick (BOS)
Additional Details:
Braun's been in-and-out of the lineup this year, so the price should be super cheap, like 6th or 7th cheap. Retention brings price up, but not too much.
2.
BOS
  1. 2023 5th round pick (WSH)
Additional Details:
Caps might be looking to add a defender as they hope to contend. Zboril is far from a top option, but he's fairly young, cap controlled for next year, and can play both sides. Sounds like a decent bargain bin option for a team if they can't land a big fish defender.
WSH
  1. Zboril, Jakub
Additional Details:
The Bruins do not need Zboril with Braun coming in, with Reilly and Stralman in the minors. Let's face it: Zboril is up on the big club because he's cheap. He hasn't been great when called on, and though he's shown potential in the past, particularly last season, I think a change of scenery is needed for him. He won't burn the Bruins if moved, and his cap can be used to add a depth forward. He shouldn't be worth much, but whatever.
3.
BOS
  1. Fischer, Christian
Additional Details:
Cheap, pending RFA, almost 2 hits per game, at least solid in his own end, fairly young at 25. All things that make Fischer a good trade option. I imagine he'll be slightly more expensive than the likes of Acciari or Bjudstad, both of which have been mocked on this site at-length, but worth it, I think.
ARI
  1. McLaughlin, Marc
  2. 2023 5th round pick (BOS)
Additional Details:
McLaughlin is a young center/wing who's shown NHL ability but is buried on the deepest forward roster in the NHL. He could shine as a top nine option for the Yotes. I'd be sad to see Marc go but this team is more win-now than I've ever seen them, so worth it for the cup odds.

Zboril at a low cost would be a peak Brian MacLellan add, makes me think back to Kempny/Jerabek in 2018.. I think Washington will swing higher for a defenseman but at the very least, I would trust Zboril over Irwin on the current defense as a change of scenery guy.

Zero need to move Zboril out.

I like Fischer but not moving McLaughlin for him. Zboril for Fischer would make more sense.
