Description
With our impending need for warm bodies to play in place of our players moved out at the deadline theres no real reason not to claim Kap for at least the rest of this year even if we waive him next year

Worst case we have a buriable AHL deal, best case Kap regains some of his old value and we flip him I guess?

Kappy is a relatively decent 3rd liner imo. Doesn't have the processing speed to go with his foot speed which makes him a non top 6 forward, but a young player having something to prove? Why not give him a shot.

Wonder if comtois or Jones get any interest. Still young, but might want a fresh start.

Yeah it seems like a straight up no-downside move for the Ducks (at least as "no-downside" as possible) his deal is a buriable one year deal next year and the $2M cap hit he'd have in the AHL doesnt impact our team that much as we arent competing next year regardless, and whos to say a 50% retained Kap next year doesnt get us a decent pick next deadline if he bounces back a bit.

As much as Ducks fans on here don't/won't like it (myself included) It feels like Comtois is all but traded already. I've seen some chatter of the team being done with him, Citing locker room issues as well as a poor work ethic (which admittedly goes against almost every report we've seen about him thus far in his career) But regardless it seems like the writing is on the wall

Jones is different, he seems to be a Pat Verbeek "Guy" fits the mold/whatever you want to call it that Verbeek seems to covet I dont think he gets moved

He's got great speed, poor shooting ability, good passing ability, bad at reading the play in the D zone, but carries the puck up ice well. He had a lot of success with Evan Rodrigues and Jared McCann, but Ron had to sign an old Jeff carter over the young guys...

Makes sense to me. And the rest of the plan looks reasonable and positive.

Yeah I don’t see a reason against us claiming him, we need RW as is and that’s before we trade away guys creating more NHL roster holes. His cap hit isn’t bad for a team in our position (we’ll probably need help getting up to the cap floor, RFA deals could change that) I mentioned in a different thread that we had interest in Kap during the Bob Murray era and I’m sure there’s still people that were for Kap then that are still with the team.

Yeah I didn’t understand essentially taking Carter over the two younger guys, mishandling of assets for sure.

Didn’t do anything major haha I don’t think I have the time for one of those this year tears of joy

Hoping we see another solid deadline day/week from Verbeek again, I’m curious how the total return last deadline will compare to this years.
