Description
It is time to extend the young players and envision a future around them. The first step is moving Goodrow's $ off the books to make this happen; he only has a limited no-trade. Vegas has a surprisingly low amount of money committed to forwards next season and could look to add some stable leadership in Goody to take the next step at cheap price of a 4th.

Miller we get under $6M for the long term. We give Othman and Cuylle a chance with a full season and see how they do, can rotate in other minor leaguers like Blidh. At deadline, maybe add a 3LW.

Top priority the following offseason will be extending Lindgren and Kakko, which will require a major move - trading either Trouba or Kreider. By the 2025 season, one of those contracts needs to come off the books. We will have other key players due for extensions. I think Lindgren is more important to keep on this roster than Trouba or Kreider (and he's cheaper than both, much cheaper). I understand Chytil will be the most expensive 3C in hockey with the extension I propose. But I think he is going to be an elite player and $6.5M will look like a bargain. He will be on the first powerplay and given plenty of minutes, they will give him the opportunities, maybe even some looks on the wing considering he can't win a faceoff anyway.

Let's keep the conversation going I am always talking hockey on here or Twitter, give me a follow @Jason_Morrin. Looking forward to these playoffs, what a battle it's going to be!!!!!!

Other teams have cap issues too, why do they take on Goodrow's full cap?

Because they want the player at that cap hit. There's a great chance they don't. Just proposing that maybe they would be comfortable with it.

No one is doing that kind of favor to NYR, the cap room NYR needs so badly, for essentially nothing. Not to mention his M-NTC.

The Rangers need to keep in mind that they only have Shesterkin at $5.75m per season for two more seasons after this one, at which time his cap hit is going to skyrocket, so they really need to do everything they can, within reason, to try to win a cup this year or in the next two. I think Drury did a great job of adding last year and this year without sacrificing too much of the future. He has also worked the cap so they will have no dead cap space starting next season, which will be the first time in about a decade. He will probably have to do bridge deals for Chytil, Miller and Laffy, and trade Goodrow somehow in order to keep either Kane or Tarasenko. I mean they moved Marc Staal off the books at his full cap hit a few years ago, so Goodrow should be doable too.

chytil is not going to get that much for that short of term. miller is a tricky contract negotiation i cant think of any comparable off the top of my head(Parayko?) ide love to sign the young guys long term but i dont see how its possible with the current cap situation. ide say best bet is give them 3 year bridges for cheap then try and resign vlad and have his contract end with panarin and troubas if doable. not signing kids will not be the smart move long term when the cap goes up but i dont see anther option
