Description
*Red Wings have one +20 goal scorer on the team atm, while some other rebuilding teams have as many as 5. Jason Zucker should help in the goals scoring aspect while also bringing some leadership.
*Clifton is small for a defenseman, but plays like a 6'5" enforcer. Right handed which is important. Other guy I was thinking about is Scott Mayfield, but he is older and is gonna cost more than Clifton.
*Why didn't Yzerman trade Suter at the deadline? Because he is gonna get signed. Suter is versatile and can play anywhere in the lineup. Great on the PK as well.
*Change of scenery for Petersen. UFA-market is really weak this summer and teams that are in a desperate need of goaltending are probably gonna overpay. So why not take a chance on Petersen while getting valuable assets back at the same time? If Petersen is still bad we could buy him out after the 23-24 season and go after a goalie in 2024. Or maybe Cossa is ready by then. Trade in the middle of the season and send Petersen down if the situation gets really bad.

It's only two years. If it doesn't work next year he can get buried and save 1.15M in cap or a buy out which is 1M in year 1 and 2M in year 2. I wouldn't be sending that high of picks back though.

I would do something similar to that Peterson deal, maybe not send picks as high as 4th rounders back but I like the idea. Upgrading 60 or so spots in two drafts is still valuable. They also might be more inclined to do it with the picks going back knowing they can still grab players in those drafts.
I don't mind the idea of Zucker but I don't think Pittsburgh will have trouble resigning him for that deal you offered him. I know they would like to move cap out with Petry and Carter, but I think it's more moving dead weight players with cap. They would rather the money to spend on better players in free agency.
I would bring back Suter at that price point.
Clifton is a good target and I keep forgetting about him. I bet some desperate team gives him more money and term. I wouldn't be surprised if he got 4M x 5 on the open market. He's still young enough to justify a contract like that.
I think that's alot of money for Veleno and term for Veleno personally but I'll be the first to admit I haven't seen him enough to know what else he does in the ice.

That's just a lot of dead money for 2 2nds WITH picks going back as well. Peterson and a 1st (which won't even be that early since LA has been better) for future considerations, or the rights to Brattstrom or something and then we've got something.

I do agree, in that sense. 4th rounders I think are a bit early to go back. I'm not opposed to sending picks back though. Maybe like 2024 5th, cause they don't have one right now, and a 2025 7th since we have two. I guess we will see what the LA fans think but they seem to want to give him another opportunity.
