Description
Tried to make a contender team after the Hextall disaster. Year of competing have left the cupboard near bare in terms of growth and building within. Gotta go to the open market to rebuild. I have a blend of legacy players returning for a run and talented players at market rates (or what I think they will get) I try to explain my decisions for the trades and here I will explain some of the free agents

Kessel-Top 6 player really only gonna score goals don't expect much defense but a bit of a homecoming here for him to finish out his career perhaps?
Bertuzzi-Gritty hard-nosed player I have him at a second line salary but he really helps on that third line role with Granlund and Connor Brown (him later)
P. Brown-4th line plug can help fill a role on that 4th line if needed
Raanta-Petersen is a gamble still for sure so having Raanta as a third goalie helps if things go south
C. Brown-a sneaky gem of a ufa for the market, he is coming off an injury in a contract year so this would be a good prove it deal to have a great 3rd line to take the pressure off the top 6

Trades
1.
PIT
  1. Petersen, Cal
Additional Details:
I, for one, am still a Petersen believer. His buried cap hit is more than Carter's cap hit overall so its financially a win. I think Carter can help teach Byfield more of that gritty 3rd liner role
LAK
  1. Carter, Jeff
Additional Details:
The issue here is moving Carter. He has a NMC, so you have to think of what teams he would waive to. I think the options are Philly or LA IMO. I think Briere isn't gonna make any big moves, but if he goes for a rebuild obviously send Carter there
2.

  1. 2023 5th round pick (VGK)

Kessel is no longer a top 6 player, although a reunion would be cool.
Bertuzzi will demand more than $4M.
Nylander on the 4th line doesnt make much sense.
No real change to the blueline, which was one of the biggest issues in my opinion.
Petersen could bounce back, but it is a huge risk. I would much rather keep Jarry.

Petersen is an easier contract to deal with than Carter. The season after next buyout is much easier to deal with. They will just pay picks to move him if needed.

Idk man the way I look at it is you're spending 10.8mil on goaltending and it got worse.

I don't mind the skaters at all though
