Labanc wouldn’t be able to crack the Isles lineup this year. He’s not worth a third round pick.

You clearly haven't watched him this season. with that retention he's easily worth a 2nd

I’m not gonna pretend I go out of my way to watch the San Jose sharks play, but when I last saw Labanc play against the Isles he was terrible. He had a beautiful goal and then made four terrible decisions that completely erased his impact.

Well there you go, his play this season has been exactly the opposite of what you described. He has incredible defensive stats and has really struggled to produce, despite very good underlaying number and expected production.

-Simek probably gets Kulikov'd this summer - I don't think he's a bad player, but he's basically an overpaid 7th D at this point. When you spend half the year in the press box and the other half getting less than 15 minutes a night on a lottery team, I can't imagine that many teams lining up to give any sort of asset for him.

-Labanc isn't a terrible option, and I think the value is fine here, but the Isles feel like a bad fit. New York already has 12 Fs under contract next year + Oliver Wahlstrom's RFA rights - I can't imagine them devoting $2M+ and a 3rd rounder for yet another middle-6 option.
