Description
It doesnt need to be Vancouver- i just use them because they are a team trying to win, and might prefer another pick sooner rather than next year where they think theyll be better. Frankly this could be done with anyone who really likes a player this year and wants another pick to get them

The idea is that the expected value difference between where the picks end up (28-32 vs 12-20 ish) is made up by time value. If VAN really likes a guy now, they get him and Toronto can wait a year to increase their pick position (essentially a pick trade back, but over years rather than rounds).

Anyway I want Sam Dickenson on the Leafs, so thats what Im trying to set us up for here - or it gives us more deadline buying power.

Canucks don't really seem that interested in picks anyway. I think they take their chances with their own 2024 first

So it'd be like a top 15ish pick for at best the 30th pick? i doubt the canucks even entertain this

I have to think the Canucks brass believe that will be a playoff pick (17+) right? Your teams actions only make sense in that context.

In terms of not wanting picks, i wonder if thats more to do with trying to be good now (aka aqua forcing them) or if they dont like anyone. Id guess the former but perhaps you are right.

Someone may be interested, but I don't think the Canucks are that team. I'm expecting some teams to probably trade picks projected to be better in next years draft for picks this draft just due to the strength of the 2023 class. Boston's pick will most likely be 29-32, but could probably net you a pick expected to be in the 16-20 range next year (first round exit from a weaker playoff team).

(2023 draft isnt actually stronger once you get deep in the first, but please dont tell anyone because i want to take advantage of the misconception smile
