Then you must not have heard, he's not available.

"I'm not considering moving John Gibson," Verbeek said flatly. "I've actually sat down and had a conversation with him about this. We have an excellent number one goaltender. The hardest thing in the NHL is finding a number one goaltender and I can speak from experience on this, because when we were in Tampa, we did not have a number one goaltender and we gave up numerous assets trying to chase one. March 8, 2023, its on the NHL website.

That’s called posturing. Verbeek is looking for a good deal to offload his aging starter to a good home at an even better price than what’s been offered.

This might be just trying the take of some schmuck reporter from Pittsburgh that wanted to make the crazy take of trading either Rust or Guentzel for Gibson. As if Rust and Guentzel are even close in value. I’d doubt Anaheim would want Rust nor would Rust waive for Anaheim and I doubt Guentzel would waive for Anaheim either. Plus Guentzel would be a no-go for the pens.

You don't have the A prospect forward that would be required for any Gibson trade, so your 2023 first and 2024 second would be part of the package. I doubt that Rust would waive his NTC, and we won't be trading Gibson for one whole season of Guentzel (who's probably a no-go in any event, as @HockeyFan1234 says), and Hallander, Legare and Poulin don't seem to have bright futures, so I suppose we'd have to take a chance on that Tristan Broz kid. And that's IF Gibson wants to go and Verbeek wants to trade him, which is an giant-odds-against parlay in the first place.

No, it's not, this is all from the season ticket holder event right after the TDL where Verbeek had to explain what happened this season and what the plan going forward is. He says this, turns around and trades Gibson, the fans would riot, and to answer your next question, yes, that is a major consideration for a team that is in as small a market as Anaheim is.

Add to that the team is not in a position to move on from Gibson. We're trying to build back better next season, and we still need a veteran starter to coach Dostal and shelter him until our defense is up to snuff. We move Gibson and we have to go acquire a goalie capable of handling his workload, and the only other one out there is Hellebuyck.

So no, we're not trading him.
