This trade would make the Leafs weaker. We would lose our shutdown center in Kadri who scored 32 goals and only 5 less points than Tavares. We'd lose an elite winger in Nylander who put up 5 less points than Tavares. Plus Tavares is a free agent after the season, that is a lot to give up for a rental. We could even wait and acquire him for free.

I mean if the Islanders are going to trade Tavares, this is a very realistic package. I was very skeptical clicking on this post expecting to see something far worse. I still don't believe he will be moved, but I can live with this return.

Why would you want to bring back Kulemin with the Leafs? At 4M, and at a position where talented prospects are lining up for ice time. And why adding a fifth left handed defenseman on the team, when we have three more of them with NHL potential? Not to mention giving away a possible future NHL star. All that for a player who may be interested in joining the Leafs anyway as UFA next year...

I see no reason to trade for Tavares...if you get him in free agency it only costs money. They would be foolish to trade a young stud like Nylander for him...

Has to be an Islanders fan to even THINK you can have a sniff at getting Nylander. This is not the 90s anymore, no team trades their top young talent for one season of a rental player when if they wanted to try and sign them they could just wait 12 months for free.
