Description
This team really will have to take advantage of their young contracts in the bottom 6 and on D. Not sure if AZ would be interested in DeSmith. If anything he could be a cheap trade asset at the deadline. Chicago should try to be bad for a few more seasons to load up on young talent. Getting paid to take a reasonable cap hit should work.
I doubt WPG would retain, but the pens could always add to get it done.

Yeah like you said the pens would likely have to add for the retention

I like Scheifele, but I'm not sure he's the best fit here. Maybe playing him or Geno on the wing and moving Erod to 3C could work better, but I can't imagine Scheifele or Geno wanting to be the 3C. I mean on paper it's obviously I deep ass team and deep at center. I also don't think we should pay the 14OA for a rental. Unless it's the exact right player. I would rather use the 14OA for Saros, or a younger forward that is really good. Maybe that could be Troy Terry, but I don't think he will be available.

Yah, I'd throw in the 2024 3rd or a prospect not named Pickering to get the retention. I just really like the idea of bringing in another center to take some of the burden off of Sid and Geno. They won't be getting younger lol.

I can't see a single scenario where Saros becomes available. I wish he would be, but can't see it. Obviously this is just how I would like to see things play out, but I picked a few of those players for their versatiliy. Sully isn't afraid to juggle things when he has the players to do so. He got stuck last season with a poor roster.
