I think the team still has a chance to be successful with its core players, but wouldn't be surprised if big changes are also on the way this offseason. Here is my take on a conservative offseason where the leafs keep most of their current players and go again for a playoff run next season.

First and foremost, the team needs to move on from Sheldon Keefe. They need a new coach that can diversify their play style and adapt under pressure. Keefe's style of play worked well in the regular season, but failed again and again in the playoffs and he was constantly outcoached by his opponents.

Second, I think they should move on from Kerfoot, Holl and Bunting - the perennial whipping boys of leafs fans and reporters. They get this rep for good cause. At best, their play is inconsistent and at worst they are downright liabilities. For depth players, the team doesn't need superstars, just guys who can play consistently well.

There are also several guys the leafs should resign - the biggest of which is ROR. He is a great leader, solid 2-way player and face-off specialist. Assuming the team can get him on a somewhat friendly deal, he would be a perfect guy to keep around. Adding to this are guys like Kampf, Acciari and Aston-Reese, who are good forecheckers and solid defensively. I would also add to this mix guys like Pius Suter and Adam Erne who are versatile players that can be gotten for a good price.
