Description
Previous assessment: https://www.capfriendly.com/armchair-gm/team/3747897

Explanation of Tiers:
- LW: I am projecting them to play NHL games. Could be a handful of games or a future all-star, but that's not the point of this assessment.
- C: Coin flip as to whether they belong in the LW or RW column.
- RW: They need to find another gear in their development to see NHL games but possess enough talent to the point where it's possible.
- LD: I have written off their chances of playing NHL games. It is still possible, but they really need to find a higher gear.
- RD: Have not seen enough of them to make a judgement. Probably would fall in RW or LD column.

Graduations:
- Nick Perbix (Hedman's new RD)

Misc:
- Day will be gone in the preseason, he did not progress this year. I wouldn't be surprised if he's not retained.
- Ryfors will also be gone in the preseason, he signed in the SHL for next year. He deserved an opportunity IMO.
- Goncalves & Finley could both see NHL time next year, if injuries strike the Lightning. Good starts to the season, and I'd call them up over Koepke/Fortier.
- Koepke/Fortier are FAs, I think we keep both, even though they both had relatively down years, there is still potential in them.
- Kurth's numbers don't jump out, but I think he has the tools to play NHL games if he progresses as he gets more opportunities at NCAA Minnesota.
- Edmonds could make the team out of camp -- don't be surprised -- on raw talent -- but I think he needs another year to prove himself and refine some stuff.
- Howard had a rough year, but he transferred from UMD to Michigan State for next season, so we'll see if that changes anything.
- I want to put Gill in the C column, but I'll hold off for now.
- Koschekin is retiring. Long Live the GOAT!

As always, ask if you have questions. I could probably tell you something about any of them.

Was JT's season that good? Thought you had him in RW last time. How long til he makes the lineup?

I was super excited about this draft for awhile, think we would find another Point, Kuch type in a later round. Now not so much. Hopefully a couple these guys make the jump to make up for the lack of guys coming thru.

I had Thompson in the C column at the midseason point.
To begin the year, he was not moving the puck well, hesitating to shoot the puck, and not defending in his own zone.
In the second half of the year, he began shooting the puck with more authority and moving the puck at a good level. Defense still needs some work, but the improvement was there - and that was good.
And he's still yet to see power play time, which he should excel at with his shot.
I doubt he's called up next season, but maybe 2024-25.

I know I've already made myself a known Goncalves stan, but this year I think he put himself at the top of our prospect pool for future NHL readiness. Skating might be an issue, but I'd probably compare him to Katchouk in that department, and he wasn't terrible.
I also want to see him shoot more (at the right time). Sometimes it looks like he's dead set on passing.
I think he needs another year in Syracuse to fully mature.

And I'm serious on Edmonds possibly making the team to begin the year.
Myers will probably be on the team to start, for cap reasons, but Edmonds is a wrist-shot shooting talent we haven't had in awhile.
Rangsey and Steven_Stamkos liked this.
