It's really a lateral move that saves you $1M. Pens pass. If the Pens move Jake, which is possible, but unlikely, they're probably going move him to get a completely different style player.

Not to mention the fact that we’re already strong at RW and relatively weak at LW.

Being a lateral move is kind of the point really. I don't know if a Guentzel trade would be accepted by the Pens' core but getting a bit younger should be in tgeir favor depending on whether or not they can afford to sign Nylander.

From the Leafs perspective, it's about shaking up the core and while Nylander has been their most consistent playoff performer, it's only fitting that they swap him for a proven playoff guy. That being said, you're right that 1m in savings is not enough to justify this for the Leafs, so what more could/would Pittsburgh add considering that they can't just dump futures willy-nilly when they have the oldest roster. Maybe they can add a roster Dman like POJ or Rutta, or Friedman/Ty Smith+a pick if the Leafs have any interest in that. The other thing to consider is that Nylander wants to stay in Toronto, so if they are trading him for Guentzel then they better not lose him to free agency.

I think Nylander can play both wings.
