Trading Marner for 2 non-physical players isn't what the leafs are looking to do. They are very good players just not the style the leafs need to add.

Necas was invisible in the playoffs. Marner had 14 points in 11 games. Marner is a 99 point Selke finalist. Marner was 1st team all-star at RW each of the last 2 seasons. That’s an award given to the top RW in the league. Necas is a nice player but he is not close to Marner. He has great feet and work ethic but does not posess Marner’s skill or hockey IQ.

While there are many Leaf fans and many want to trade Marner — management does not and that’s all that counts.

Then he's not coming to Carolina. You want roster pieces, it needs to be more than a dude that has a history of ghosting in the playoffs. Necas wasn't invisible either, 4 goals 3 assists in 15 games is a half a point a game. Not to mention, Necas is a better skater, he's also 2 years younger, makes a quarter of the money Marner does, and is an RFA on expiry, Marner is a UFA. It's a non-starter.
