why would matthews commit to that team, and why would they sacrifice so much for a guy who wont extend with them

Trade would hinge on him signing long term obviously.
Why would he commit? It's a big US market. and a team that can afford to pay him what he wants.

Not happening. The Flyers don’t have the assets. Shanahan has stated the core 4 won’t be dealt and Matthews has stated an extension is coming.

You honestly think that Matthews signs with a team heading for a rebuild, Get real and that offer isn't anywhere close to getting Matthews out of Toronto.
