Description
Doing some experimenting here with trades for Saros and Necas, and signing Compher and Schenn. $23M in space for 24-25, which should be more than enough to re-sign Necas, Mercer and Schmid.

Trades
1.
NSH
  1. Foote, Nolan
  2. Vanecek, Vitek
  3. 2024 1st round pick (NJD)
Additional Details:
Toss up between Saros and Hellebuyck. IMO, Saros is easier to pry given that Nashville has Askarov on the horizon. Both are great goalies but Saros is younger, has two years left at $5M. Nashville gets a solid goalie to pair up with Askarov and a spot for Nolan Foote with his brother Cal.
2.
CAR
  1. Bratt, Jesper [RFA Rights]
Additional Details:
Two players of similar value. Gives Bratt a fresh start in Carolina and hopefully a better long-term solution after a few years of negotiation headaches. New Jersey gets a player of similar production, some cap control for the year which frees up some trade deadline space, and hopefully less hassle when it comes time to extend. Curious to see who you guys think adds in this trade.

Bratt>Necas
Schenn doesn't fit our system.
Would rather pay bahl more and lock him up longer term.

So, why do the Canes do that? All the benefits you apply for the Devils are there for the Canes. I mean, similar production is there. But Necas is younger, cheaper, and has more team control. Not to mention, Necas hasn’t been bad with negotiations, whereas Bratt has that history.

They are 5 months apart in age. Bratt is better analytically and overall a much better producer at even strength.

Devils decline anyway bc they don't need cap space this year

Svechnikov…..142gp - 53g - 71a - 124pts (0.87 ppg)
Necas………….160gp - 42g - 69a - 111pts (0.69 ppg)

Shouldn’t we be talking about Bratt for Svechnikov?

Fair point, but Necas was also bounced up and down the Canes lineup from what I've seen (at least in the playoffs.) Makes me wonder what his production would look like next to Hughes, or next to Hischier and Meier.

I do like Svechnikov though. Certainly NJ adds more in that trade.
