It’s a deep draft. Teams aren’t coughing up 1st round picks like this. Every team declines except Chicago. Doesn’t make any sense unless Bettman is trying to fix Chicago himself again.

LA trade is a 2024 1st, not 2023 and they need the cap room. Further, they will be good this season and thus it's a late 1st.

Knucks are already over the cap with 18 players signed, they are in a pickle. This is a good move to for them to get them under the cap.

So you have ONE team coughing up a 2023 1st (and getting a 2023 1st back) not TEAMS as you responded with

Islanders need to move Bailey and it will cost a 2nd to move $5M....pretty normal historically.

No it isn’t, this is way worse. Topi Niemela is the best Leafs prospect at the moment (not including Knies as a prospect). And most Leafs fans are ok with moving down a handful of spots in the draft, no more than 5 or 6
