That trade really doesn't make much sense for either team. Coyotes trade futures for player cap dumps and players who won't help with their rebuild (as good as Morgan Rielly is). Toronto just makes their roster worse while they are in win-now mode.

Trade away players the Leafs actually want and already have, to sign a bunch of middle-tier UFA's to big long-term deals.

How does adding Barbashev & Severson make the roster worse? Ya they lose Reilly but they can win without him

I was really talking about the trade itself rather than the additional transactions you made but I'd honestly rather keep Rielly. He has been great in the regular season and the playoffs for the Leafs. The term on his contract might scare me a little but I see Severson as a second pair defenseman at best, so really the big fish you're getting by doing this is Barbashev. He's obviously better than Jarnkrok but when it comes to money and the Leaf's situation, I'll just keep Rielly and Jarnkrok at that point. And who knows, maybe they find a separate trade for Murray and they can convince Barbashev to take a slight paycut.
