Description
I've seen quite a few of these players traded to Seattle in ACGMs recently, and I thought I'd provide my thoughts on why I don't believe trading for any of these players makes sense for the Kraken. Obviously as the offseason progresses circumstances could change, but this is how I see things right now.

As usual, constructive comments are welcome. Go Kraken and Go Firebirds!

1.
BOS
Quoted Price: 2023 2nd round pick (52nd overall)

Explanation: Grzelcyk's a solid dman and his defense is better than his size indicates, but Seattle's going to be looking to fill their LD vacancy with either a long-term top four option or veteran stopgap. Grzelcyk doesn't fit the first option, and Seattle could find more affordable alternatives for the second. I think they'd have more interest in Forbort, who would cost much less if anything at all and is an excellent penalty killer.
    2.
    TOR
Quoted Price: 2023 2nd round pick (57th overall)

Explanation: Similar to Grzelcyk, Brodie's a decent defenseman who can play in his own end. However, he's aging and the Kraken can find a cheaper option (both in terms of cap hit and trade cost) to fill Soucy's shoes until Ryker Evans is ready for the NHL.
      3.
      SEA
      1. Deangelo, Anthony ($2,500,000 retained)
      PHI
Quoted Price: 2023 2nd round pick (57th overall), 2024 5th round pick (SEA)

Explanation: Seattle's power play could use some improvement, and DeAngelo would help with that. However he is also a black hole on defense. Plus, Seattle's chemistry and locker room harmony played a key role in their success, and I can't imagine the front office wanting to chuck the hand grenade that is TDA in there and disrupt what they've got going.
        4.
        WSH
Quoted Price: 2023 2nd round pick (50th overall), 2024 2nd round pick (SEA)

Explanation: I get Oshie is from Washington and all, but that's no reason for Seattle to trade two second round picks for a player in his mid-30s who's banged up and isn't worth his contract anymore. The Kraken have no room for him in their forward group and his cap hit would be better spent elsewhere.
          5.
          EDM
Quoted Price: 2024 3rd round pick (TOR)

Explanation: Yamamoto's another local player and someone who could use a fresh start. The problem is that Seattle's not exactly the best place for him to rebound; their forward corps is very deep and he would be buried in a depth role. However, there could be some interest in him from the Kraken if they sell high on Sprong and want to bring in a defensively minded replacement.

For the record, most of my Gryz trades are a 2nd with a return of a 3rd or a 4th which translates to less than a 2nd.

Would you like Forbort for free?

If Seattle will take Forbort at his full AAV, then Boston will happily take that.

Gladly is subjective. I think Reilly is cut and there is a path to get cap compliant with just Forbort being traded into someone’s cap room. It just means some maneuvering with 4th line options other than Lauko.

Once Boston can become cap compliant, all of their assets (Gryz, Ullmark, Hall) suddenly gain more value. I think Forbort is a quality D man, but situationally the only contract that we'd like to get rid of more than his is Reilly's. And as you said, the best path with him is probably a buyout.
