The Leafs cap structure probably won't allow for them to add Karlsson at 9.5M, and he's not filling a need either for them to pay that cost.

If the Sharks wants to be a part of Kuzy to COL the logical reason is to retain some salary. Roughly 2,5M +.

He totally fits the PP Quarterback need and another option besides from 44 to create offense from the back. 9.5 is not possible - but half retained he would be great - maybe not the perfect addition for the Leafs, yes. Beside that chances are not that hight to get another Norris season of this caliber from him.

He's better than 44 as a PP QB but that's asking for problems really lol. If Karlsson was at least the same age as Rielly then maybe you say who cares but he's not. More offense from the back-end is something the Leafs could use but they can probably go get a guy like Hanifin or Orlov or maybe even take a flyer on OEL lol instead to slot in behind Rielly. Giving Timmins a chance as well might pay off.

They aren't going to get Karlsson and put him on PP2, or maybe they could but yeah, if the cost is Liljegren+2 1sts (even if they are taking on Murray) for Karlsson at 9.5M, that's not worth it. Half-retained is a lot to ask. I would say 4M retained to get him at 7.5M, and then it's manageable perhaps but either Leafs keep Liljegren or the 28th OV (SJ should be able to draft a RD with that pick).

Right. I would prefer Orlov 1000 times out of 1000 due to his physical abilities and his playoff clutch performance.

The problem is that Rielly is no PP1 QB - so Karlsson would take PP1 and that would cause other problems - also its unlikely that they take PP1 away from 44. Maybe the new PP coach could change something in his playstyle. He never will get the bomb shot and the missing shot from the point is a big issue in the Tor PP, even if it was one of the best in the league over the last seasons. Still a little bit concerning in the playoffs. If Morgan could move a little better lateral and would make quicker passing decisions, that would be a step in the right direction.
