Please no Gibson. He's sucked for half a decade.

My thought here is that you can do the Gibson trade without Zucker or Jarry. Realistically we can just sign them in free agency if we wanted to.

But here’s my logic right now:

I think the only goalie that isn’t a free agent that makes sense for Pittsburgh is Gibson or Ullmark. I think Hellebuyck and Saros will be too expensive in the fact that Winnipeg and Nashville will want young players / prospects back for either goalie and Pittsburgh has few of those.

If I were Pittsburgh I’d make the risk with Gibson and here’s why:

Gibson put up around .900 SV% on the worst defensive team in the history of the Cap Era of the NHL which is pretty damn good. With any adequate defense, his numbers will increase. I also think Anaheim is going to reconsider the price: still high but not insane, due to Hellebuyck and Saros being on the market.

I think this trade is fair and works for both teams:
Anaheim gets a late 1st in next years draft and a high risk high reward player; where Pittsburgh gets a hometown boy who can help them contend in their last window of contention.

I’d go as far to say I’d retain 800,000 on Gibson’s contact too

I think Gibson would flourish in Pittsburgh. He clearly needs a change of scenery. Pens will never be confused with the 95 Devils when it comes to defending, but they can be competent when they want to. It would be good to get horse back there again. I would try to see if the Pens can get him without giving up a 1st round pick though, due to Gibson's contract.

Calgary needs someone to play who won't be leaving after next season...
