Is Buffalo really in a position to wait for Michkov? He has three years left on his Russian contract and will not be coming over until it is up. Even if you assume he is NHL ready when that deal comes up, that is three years that you are waiting for a top level prospect to even become part of your system. Buffalo is ready to start being good now, a team like Chicago that is going to circle the drain for the next three years wouldn’t be hurt too badly taking Michkov if they had a lower pick.

Of course BUF can wait. Every team can. Most 1st round picks take at least 3 years anyway. Laf was drafted in 2020 and NYR are still waiting for him. Byfield, 2020. Most of the league is still waiting on the 2020 class.
