If that was the price then Detroit could just get Konecny and leave Cat to walk elsewhere in FA next summer

Cat would come with an 8x8.5m extension, Konecny is the one that has two years left on a deal paying him 5.5m. So Cat Is clocked down and TK is the one that can walk as a UFA two summers from now.

But also DeBrincat is no doubt the better player between the two, Ottawa loses value based on the situation, which brings them closer to equal value.
