Very bad trade for the Leafs. I think the Leafs want to get younger in a Nylander trade. Also, Treliving wants to reshape the defense so Nylander could be traded for a young defenceman.

Panarin for 3 years at 2M cheaper isn't really worth it. The Leafs should be trying to expand their window or keep it the same as to if they were to re-signing Nylander.

If we trade Panarin I would rather get two or three players for the cost of his cap. Not one. It defeats the purpose of moving him.

Also if they do trade Nylander for a forward it will be a guy who stands in front of the net causing havoc and can win the corner battles, also if necessary stickup for teammates. Panarin does none of these things.
