It seems everyone has overreacted to Quinn's injury. It shouldn't and won't change our plans for forwards. We have Jiri Kulich, Matt Savoie, and Isak Rosen all at or very near to NHL ready. All project to be top 6 players. If anything Quinn's injury has opened even more opportunity for these prospects to make an impact. It would be profoundly stupid to sign a UFA forward out of a knee-jerk reaction, especially one like Compher who had a career year (will not be a 50 point player) and to sign him to big term and big $$$ when you have the best forward prospect pool in the NHL

Thankfully we didn’t do the Petry deal
He’s old, & kinda crappy, & wouldn’t have been a good partner for Power imo

Johnson last season121 hits 102 blks 0 goals 8 pts 35 yo 1:53 PK/gm 17:33 TOI/gm
Petry last season 190 hits 111 blks 5 goals 31 pts 35 yo 2:22 PK/gm 22:21 TOI/gm

If your post focused on the cap hit, play off experience and team continuity maybe it would have merit.
But he is the same age as Erik, with more hits, blks, goals, pts, PK and TOI.
Plus the Sabres would have received a 2nd.
