As a fan of neither team I will make this as clear as possible. If the Leafs ask the Kings for Doughty, the Kings will at least ask for Marner or Nylander in return. I doubt the Kings would take anything less. So proceed from there if you so desire.

If the Kings demand Nylander or Marner, and more there is no deal from the Leafs. Doughty only has two years left in his contract so filling one hole short term and creating one long term doesn't seem ideal for the Leafs. Of course I have there have been so few trades of Doughty to other teams in request for their young stars, who knows what Doughty's value is. Kings finished out of the playoffs last year, and likely this year too, so having a so called stud Dman doesn't guarantee team success.

If the Kings win it will be because of their defensive game. Good Goalie: Quick. Shutdown Defenseman: Doughty. Shutdown Center: Kopitar. Doughty is a top 5 defenseman in the league and they won't trade him for spair parts. I agree with you that I would not give up Marner or Nylander if I were the Leafs. I'm just stating what the Kings would likely ask.
