Brutal for the Canes. Brodie and Pesce might be even but 3m, 71 point Necas with four years of control is worth a lot more than 7m, 85 point Nylander for one year.

Canes won't give Nylander the extension needed to make this trade remotely worth it

Nylander > Necas; not really close. I think all the capoligists on this site (of which I am one 😄) focus a bit too much on the aav side of value. Of course in a flat cap world, a player’s aav is important but more important is what they bring to the team. The past 2 years Nylander has a 75% higher goal scoring rate than Necas, that’s a massive difference. For that reason I would prefer we keep Nylander but if the team does move him, Necas + is minimum I would accept -trade would still be a big win for the Canes. Willy would instantly become their most dangerous offensive player - their area of greatest need .

Disagree on your Nylander/Pesce comparison. Nylander is three years older. Compare what Nylander and Necas did at the same age. Is there THAT much difference on ice, and certainly the cap and term would give Necas a lot more long term value
Pesce and Necas make the same as Nylander. With Brodie thrown in, the Leafs have 5m to spend on another player. Big win for the Leafs.
Canes scored 10 fewer goals than the Leafs last season, so is a goal scorer THAT important to the Canes.
