Description
Xhekaj i was against sending to the AHL
That said Xhekaj-Mailloux growing as a Duo has BIG Upside for Xhekaj.
LD is getting crowded and soon at least 2 players have to go whether its MM,KG,JH,AX or NB.
We Got Hutson and Adam Enstrom both overachieving past their draft expectations based on Work Ethic Largely.
They dont take more than a week or two a year off.
Engstrom trained to the point his Coach locked the Gym and told him to politely get a life.
He then began training with his Junior team every day as well which is why when his SHL team was Eliminated.
His final interview when asked "what now" he responded "Playoffs, If my JR team will have me"
He's a die hard and he learned to play RD to get an advantage for team Sweden selection camp and it worked.
He's someone you could say "go play Goalie" and not only would he try, he'd likely do well given the situation.

This brings me back to Xhekaj-Mailloux bonding in the AHL playing big minutes.
What better why to Ensure the Guy we ALL Want behind Guhle and Hutson long term is Xhekaj.
IMO there's not better pick or person because despite Engstrom being amazing Arber brings those same Qualities.
Arber gained 53 lbs of Muscle over 2 seasons ,learned to play RD too at a high level and got control of his Blistering Slapshot.

With all the Stiff competition coming in the summer of 2025 for that next season.
I think Strategically this is Xhekaj's based chance to stay and for growth in minutes/role

Everything else i did here i feel is Direct and Fair-ish.
But i feel like Xhekaj in the AHL was going to start a Crapfest
I wanted to address the logic behind it in hopes they see the upside of 6'4 & 6'6 Defensive Duo
By 2025-26 i want this :

Guhle-TBD(1/4 RD below will remain)
Hutson-Reinbacher
Xhekaj-Mailloux
Engstrom or Struble

Trades
1.
MTL
  1. Addison, Calen [RFA Rights]
  2. 2024 2nd round pick (MIN)
  3. 2026 5th round pick (MIN)
Additional Details:
Conditional 2nd becomes a 1st in 2025 (top 3 protected) if MIN Wins a Stanley Cup with Savard playing 50% of the games or more in 2023-24.

If MIN wins a cup it costs them, sure
But they get to keep Savard another year as Defending Champs and be gone just as Parise/Suter's 14m buyout hit goes to 850k
MIN
  1. Savard, David ($1,750,000 retained)
Additional Details:
MIN gets a good RD for 2 years at 1.75m
But MTL gets a young RD to play allowing MTL to let Reinbacher and Mailloux have a year or two to fully develop before stepping into a NHL Role. Lindstrom ,Barron, Addison and Kovacevic would all be playing for essentially one role long term.

Late 2nd round pick and 5th round pick arent great but the condition makes RS on Savard for 2 years worth it.
2.
MTL
  1. Comrie, Eric
Additional Details:
Better Mentor for Levi
Gone by the time he settles in
Extra year term but it fits BUF needs

I feel its a clean swap
Both are over paid
But 1 is a NHL goalie and Champ
The other is AHL bound as usual
BUF
  1. Allen, Jake
  2. 2025 4th round pick (DET)

Sabres analytics dept really likes Comrie- it’s why we signed him in the first place

So even though YOU think Allen is a better mentor,
i don’t think the Sabres see it that way
And i don’t think we’d want any part of Allen’s contract/Cap hit

Buffalo will utilize the cap space... They are just waiting for start of season and beyond, they for sure don't need an .891 goalie making 4 mill
