Just because a Cup contending team (Carolina) has not signed an upcoming UFA, 95% of the time they do not trade this players. They are going for the Cup. Actually Cup contending teams trade for upcoming UFAs at TDL to make themselves stronger at the deadline.
By your logic, why would Sabres want to trade for upcoming UFA Pesce? He isn't signed for 24/25.
