Description
Just a few trades

JVR one is one of the most discussed. Makes a lot of sense for both teams. Anaheim get a chance right now with their current core to take that final step to a cup. Toronto gets future assets. Max Jones is a solid prospect, could be a good power forward down the line for the top line.

fehr and martin are for picks, mainly because we don't need them.

the big trade is for landeskog, it would cost a lot, and hence they get a top 10 leafs prospect n Johnsson, a potential steal in timashov, a first and 2nd in a loaded draft, and a centerman to replace duchene should they trade him.

long term I think the lines will look something like:

Jones-Matthews-Marner
Landeskog-Nylander-Kapenen
Grundstrom-Kadri-Brown
Rychel-Gauthier-Hyman
Leivo-Brooks-Bracco

Gardiner-Zaitsev
Dermott-Rielly
Brogman-Liljegren
Rosen/Nielson-Carrick

Anderson
Woll

Theres still a lot of depth with a lot of trade pieces in the extra 5th line and 4th pairing. It can be used as trade pieces or replacements if some players don't pan out. The defence is pretty stacked with 6 defensemen that would be top 4 on most teams. Anderson has been great for us, woll backing him up would allow a transition from Anderson era to woll era. We could use some of the prospects to acquire a goalie if it doesn't work out.

I am assuming the Islanders are a place holder team, but we don't need Matt Martin back. We barely have room for the more talented forwards we have.

Haha. JVR dosent get you Jones and a 1st from Anaheim. For sure Anaheim says no to just JVR for Jones, but adding a 1st? Nope.

Ducks aren't giving so much for one year of JVR. And I don't understand why folks think the Ducks are so desperate at LW. Landeskog might be better player away from Colorado, but right now he's vastly overpaid. And the Leafs need Bozak this year. No guarantee is Nylander is NHL ready. Leafs have absolutely no centre NHL depth in case of injury, might as well keep Fehr and Bozak. Rychel has not proven he's a NHLer, and with cap space Leafs are much better off with Martin.

It's funny, just over a year ago, Landeskog was considered to be the best young Power Forward/Leader in the league. Now after one bad season, (all of Colorado did) he's overpaid and unwanted. I don't make this deal if I'm the Leafs as it really isn't servicing an area of need. Colorado has said it is looking for D help as well but this doesn't address that either. However I do believe that if and when they move him he will return and improve on his previous numbers, be a 30 goal 60+ point performer. I would have encouraged this deal (perhaps a little change) before Leafs went out and brought in Marleau.
