Send Chartier down, send Joseph down (not too risky to lose him at this moment with how much teams wanted to be compensated to take his contract)

This allows to sign Pinto but obviously you need to have Joseph and Smejkal back up to avoid having this 4th line.

He wants two-years to get into his arbitration-eligible years for next contract. So if Ottawa is going to nickel and dime him, at least give him the term he wants.

He can get a long term deal in 2.5 months lol

But why?

If he is not given a long term contract in January (like promised by the Sens organization), he could then asked for a trade and make them look bad

Just sign him to 2-year, $2.5m deal.

The wildly optimistic scenario of 1-year deal, then long-term extension in January, would have him giving up his biggest payday without arb rights. He would be allowing Ottawa to dictate terms…and giving up millions for nothing in return. It’s about as realistic as suggesting he should sign $1m x 6 years now.

Again, just give him around $2.5m for 2 years and get on with it.
