Calgary would likely lose Tanev in FA if they stink all year, this way they can recoup something for him.

For Van, they know they'll have to pay to move Garland, which they are, and they get the perfect partner for Hughes if they want to spread him and Hronek, or a great shut down pair with Soucy.

If CGY begins to consider moving out pending UFA's then VAN should definitely have interest in Tanev. I'd be curious if the Flames would want Garland's term though. I get that part of the reason you're giving up a 1st is to ship out his full contract, but maybe Beauvillier would be of interest to the Flames instead simply because they could flip him for a pick before the deadline as well.
