Description
The way I see it, the Canucks have two options going forward to accomplish adding a RHD man.

1. Keep it Simple - How I see this playing out is the Canucks either make a hockey trade to free up at least 1M in cap space by trading Beauvillier. Or to waive Beauvillier keeping the fwd depth within the organization and running a 22 man roster while signing Bear to play with Ian Cole. Garland has meshed so well with Suter Im not sure management wants to mess with that third lines success at this point.

2. Take a Risk - The other option would be to pay another team to pry a RHD free who can PK and play Toughs. Think Tanev or Pesce with varying costs. But it wont be cheap since the Canucks don't have cap space, they would need the team to take Beauvillier or Garland back which is likely counterintuitive for the club on the other end of the trade. The idea here would be to add a guy to play Toughs with Hughes while Hronek can feast on a second pairing with Cole.

What path do you think they should take?

I would wait until the 40-50 game point and see how they are doing. If they are showing signs of being legit, and you truly believe in this core, I think you have to go for it. But I wouldn't do that for a UFA. I would hope they made a move like Ottawa did for Chychrun last year. Try to find an age-appropriate, preferably right shot defenseman on a reasonable contract for a few years and pay the price if it doesn't include Lekkerimaki, Willander, or their 2025 1st.

Use some assets (even thought we don't have a lot) and try to set your core up to contend for the next 3-5 years. That is probably all we have with Miller's age anyways, unless you have another young C on the way at some point in that span...

Just don't use a prime asset for an expiring contract. It isn't worth it.

Waiving Beauvillier would be stupid IMO.

Issue here is Bear will be looking to sign within the next month so if that is the route Allvin wants to go then he needs to make a trade to free up space sooner than later which seems tough to do as its still early. I love your idea to trade for a Dman that fits long term who fits the timeline of the team. Its just so hard to pry those guys loose and I dont see how they get that guy without moving a top prospect. They will need Willander and Lekkerimaki during the peak OEL buyout years.

100% agree waiving Beauvillier wouldnt be ideal, but if they cant move him without adding a sweetner then I could see them doing it to improve the team while keeping him in the back pocket if injuries hit. IMO they would rather have Bear on the roster than Beauvillier. Would ideally fill their only hole on the roster.

Beauvillier would surely get claimed. I know he makes north of 4 million, but someone would take him.
