time to groom Marner and JTs replacement

I'm not the OP, nor a Leafs fan, but I would assume he is referring to OHL MVP Easton Cowan. May be a bit of a rich projection though...

Yeah, I can't really see any way that we sign Lindholm to that contract...
Especially if you consider the fact that Dak is going to get more (and we should keep him, because he is awesome), and we are already over the cap with a short roster and our depth significantly downgraded from this year. I'd rather re-allocate the remaining ~$7m across 2-3 players (e.g. a proper 3C and better 4th line and defensive depth).

I think you're being a bit conservative on what Hronek, Joshua, and Myers get (or at least what their comparables will be).
I'd love them all at that number, but I think Hronek will be high 7s or 8, Myers will probably be between 3.5 and 4, unless he takes a discount, and Joshua is likely going to be around 3.5.

A 23 year old center who is average size and hasn't really blossomed, a 32 year old bottom pair defenseman, and a 2nd round pick for a 26 year old, top 4, RHD who eats minutes? Hard pass.
If that is all it takes, the Canucks could easily replace Hronek and his contract value would be lower. His high value given his player profile is what is causing the Canucks problems given their cap situation and why everyone is trying to trade for him in this forum...

I don't think this would be enough for DeBrincat alone from the Canucks, as much as I love Willander and Podkolzin.

They absolutely do not.
A top 10 scorer who is also a center for a 1st and prospect? No, no. If y'all wanted cheap JT Miller, last year was the time to pry him away. He is way too important to the Canucks' success to be traded for this kind of package.

Who would you rather have
I'd say Toffoli. I get that Guentzel is better, but...
1) Toffoli has been here before and been a fit on and off the ice (e.g. won't mess with team chemistry).
2) His acquisition price will be lower, which means you won't have to touch any key prospects or anyone from your roster most likely.
3) Vancouver may be able to sign him to a reasonable contract relative to his age, whereas I think Guentzal is going to get his 6-8 years despite almost being 30.

Three Way BOS
As a Canucks fan, I wouldn't say no to that. I think it probably solves a lot of the Canucks holes up front, and allows them to slot Hoglander lower in the lineup...
Not so sure about this from the NJ or Boston perspective. At face value, it does seem like a lot to give up for Lindholm. But your breakdown above is correct, and you are also reallocating the Ullmark money, which is valuable.
I do, regardless of how others feel, really like the creativity. And seeing a deal that isn't trying to fleece the Canucks lol.

Building a younger core
I think the inclusion of Hoglander is HIGHLY unlikely in any Guentzel trade. Subtracting him and Lindholm to add one player hurts the depth of the Canucks, which has been their butter. People may look at their top end, but it has been the Garland-Joshua pairing on L3 and Hoglander on L4 driving their margins and results during their peak runs.
So you can keep dreaming Pens fans, but the inclusion of Hoglander in any trade seems counterproductive from a Canucks perspective if the goal is to compete. Also, other than Lindholm, I don't know if I can see Allvin parting with any Swedes in a trade. Dude loves them all too much - Hoglander, DPettersson, Willander, Lekkerimaki - and they are all premium assets with high upside in the next ~2-3 years.

The Insane 3- Team Trade Scenario
I think the likelihood of getting Hoglander or DPetey out of Van is quite slim, especially both, for a rental. The Canucks appear to have DPetey in a similar untouchable range as Willander and Lekkerimaki, based on local reporting/insiders. And Hoglander is too valuable at his cap hit. This would hamper them too much in the future, and from everything GMJR and co. have said, they appear to value future years - this isn't a one-year, 'throw-everything-at-the-wall' situation.

I didn't say it would cost more than 4 1sts; I said it would cost something different than a bunch of lottery tickets based on the philosophy of the Vancouver ownership group and front office.
If we have moved to an offer sheet situation, I'm sure the Canucks would have happily signed him to whatever he signed, for the exact same thing I said above: they don't want a bunch of picks that won't play for the team for 2-4 years.

Honestly, I feel like this is far more realistic from Vancouver's end than the hope of getting Guentzal. I also like this more. The likelihood of being able to sign Guentzal seems low for Vancouver, so the price that they would have to pay could be risky. Also, teams that historically go heavily all in, don't actually fair that well consistently.
Adding depth and experience parts (e.g. see Lehkonen and Manson on the Avs, or Barbashev on VGK) seems to be far more effective.
Long story short, I'd love this for Van.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>dgibb10</b></div><div>I’m saying this season is Demkos most valuable. He’s at by far the highest level he’s played at in his career. There’s not really much further up to go, and i could argue with goalie volatility he’s likely to regress at least somewhat next year
Basically I don’t think Demko will be as good next year as he currently is.
And even at the same level, going from 3 years of term down to 2 is quite meaningful.
And in this I have 3 years of demko at 10 million valued at 22.5 million or about 4 1sts.
Overall for the package I would offer 10 1st round picks of value.</div></div>
Demko may not be as good next year, but between this season and 21-22, he has been elite 2 of his 3 seasons <em>since becoming a starter</em> (e.g. one of the top 5-7 goalies in the league), with injuries derailing the other. Even if he does regress a bit next year due to goalie volatility, he will still be a very efficient contract and will likely still be an elite goaltender for at least the next several years, particularly if paired with Ian Clark. The fact that you appear to think this is a one-off makes me think you don't really track the Canucks that well...Demko is legit, and often one of the core drivers of the Canucks results.
All that to say, Vancouver never considers this trade as constructed. Even without the retention on Demko. It would cripple the team in net in the short term. Doesn't matter how good Hughes' contract is.
Also, I think Hughes' injury tendency is being overlooked in his valuation. I love the guy. But he hasn't shown the consistent ability to be available for a full season. If we're talking about volatility of performance ;)

As a Canucks fan, I do find it funny when my peers trade Petey for Hughes. Hughes is a similar level of player, on a way better contract. I would never give that up as NJ. So I can definitely agree with the NJD fans in this thread.
With that said, the OP stating that Demko's most valuable seasons are behind him from a contract perspective is kind of wild, particularly if you want the Canucks to retain half. Demko at $2.5m might be the best value contract in hockey for the next 2 years after this one.
That is my main qualm with the OP, and the inclusion of Demko tilts this trade way too far in one direction. You guys (NJD fans), of all people, should know the value of a good goalie.

That Pettersson contract is out of touch with reality, friend. As someone above has noted, our boy Petey is a 12-13m dollar player based on his performance, age, and position. As much as he may love NY over Vancouver (which no one actually knows), I doubt he loves it enough to leave 20-25 million on the table.

Trading EP basically signals *Not Competing Right Now* no matter what the FO wants. You trade him and ur retooling regardless at least the picks allows you to then flip them for someone who wants to be there.</div></div>
There are actually a few analogous examples, to some extent. Obviously the Tkachuk trade. The Eichel trade - unique given his status - but it included a significant player in Tuch, who has been great for Buffalo. The PLD trade could also be considered similar, and netted three useful players (and was a win for Winnipeg so far).
I know it is a less likely route in terms of finding a partner, but I feel like people outside of Vancouver may not truly understand how much disdain this ownership group has for a rebuild, at least to the extent that this trade would suggest (e.g. the major value being in picks).
We wanted them to trade pieces for just picks and rebuild the right way for years, but they didn't. I doubt they do that with a player of Pettersson's calibre given their contract sheet/roster construction now (e.g. Hughes on an efficient contract, Demko on a great contract, Miller locked in and 31).
And even if I am wrong about that, three mid-to-late firsts aren't getting it done. ;)

Because why not pt 2
I think my only question would by why would Petey want to sign in Ottawa and not Vancouver? Unless Ottawa does this without a guarantee that he would sign.
If that is the case, and we're at the draft and he doesn't want to sign with Vancouver, I don't know if you're going to get a much better offer in terms of an elite piece that helps you win now. All the offers on here for Petey that include multiple firsts don't really take into account ownership and management's approach in Vancouver, nor the reality of their team-building (e.g. JT in his prime, but probably set to decline soon-ish, Quinn and Demko on sweet contracts for 2-3 more years etc.).

As a Canucks fan, if Petey doesn't sign and this offer is on the table (particularly if it is Zellweger instead of LaCombe), I'd probably do it. I think it bridges between current success (e.g. Zegras as a semi-replacement), and future success.
If I am Anaheim, I wouldn't do this. Unless there is some reason you want to expedite your build, take on a huge contract, and sacrifice some assets that may be really important in a few years and still relatively cheap.

I don't know if it is so much about an overpay or underpay; if you trade EP, you probably lose the trade.
But people do need to try to understand the philosophy of Vancouver's front office while dreaming about what they could trade for him. They would never do this trade. If they are trading Petey, it will be for a package similar to what the Flames got from Tkachuk. This front office is way too invested in the 'now' to make a trade like this for a bunch of picks.

Vancouver with Lindholm
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Tmclean64</b></div><div>Miller and Brock are a pair, Petey and Lindholm will be too. Cole is in the lineup when fully healthy.
Will look something like this:
Mikheyev-Petey-Lindholm
Suter-Miller-Boeser
Joshua-Blueger-Garland
Hoglander-Aman-Lafferty
Di Guiseppe - extra fwd
Hughes-Hronek
Soucy-Myers
Zadorov-Cole
Friedman-Juulsen - extras
Demko
Desmith</div></div>
I think you've nailed it. There is one change I would consider: Mikheyev playing with Miller and Boeser as an upgrade on PDG, who played a big role as F1 on the forecheck. But I also don't know if I love the lack of physicality on a Suter-Petey-Lindholm line...maybe Lafferty bumps up to play wing with Miller and Boeser, and the fourth line becomes Hoglander-Suter-PDG...

Tell Me Guentzal Packages
Given Allvin's press conference yesterday, I feel like it is unlikely the Canucks are willing to trade more high-end assets to make another big add. At least for a guy who could just walk at the end.
As fans, we should probably expect some depth moves now. And I'm not disappointed with that; the Lindholm trade balances going for it with keeping key assets that could contribute to a 3-4 year window here. It also doesn't mess with the mojo or chemistry of the team (e.g. trading Hoglander, who has been crucial on the 4th line).
Going truly all in rarely works anyways...

It is more utter disbelief for how good this team is showing it can be, and therefore a will to go big game hunting at the TDL. They need cap space to do that, and Zadorov would be an easy move if it means you can get someone that really solidifies your top 4.
That said, Zadorov has been great and really elevated the Canucks bottom line on the back end.
As for this trade, I definitely wouldn't do it as the Canucks. Unless you're making a legit improvement on the right side (e.g. Tanev, Pesce, Hronek 2.0), I think having a big, gritty defenseman like Z is too valuable.

I don't really see CBJ trading Jiricek. But if for some reason they decide that they have to (or he forces them to), I imagine the price would have to include Willander.
