Realistically Montreal just doesn't have the assets to get it done.

I guess it really depends on where the 2024 pick is. Those picks don't come with any guarantees, not even in terms of location in the round. There has to be something of higher, more certain quality thrown in rather than more picks, hence Reinbacher, Slaf, etc.

This is all assuming the Canucks trade Petey, which seems more and more unlikely. If their success continues, he will very likely resign. If they do trade him, this team is built to win now and the Canucks probably try to pull off a Tkachuk-type trade where they get legit, win-now pieces back.
